FAQ

What Vaccinations are required for my dog to stay at Happy Dog?

Happy Dog requires:
Distemper combination (1 year and 3 year vaccines
                        accepted depending on dogs age),
Bordatella (kennel cough every 6 months),
Rabies      (1 year or 3 year depending on dogs age).

What kind of food do you serve?

             Happy Dog serves:
      Nutro-Max Chicken and Rice formula,
Nutro Lamb and Rice for puppies
Canidae All Life Stages Four Protein
           (Chicken, turkey, lamb and fish).

Happy Dog does not provide canned food, so if your pet wants some mixed in with their food please remember to bring it. If these foods do not fit your dogs diet, you are more than welcome to bring in your own food.

Happy Dog does have a refrigerator, small freezer and microwave, so special food preparation is not a problem. There is no extra charge for this service.

What should I bring for my dog?

We encourage a bed or blanket from home along with a favorite toy or two.
(Please keep in mind when selecting items that Happy Dog will launder soiled or wet items, so please no oversized items. i.e.., comforters, sleeping bags) If you choose not to bring bedding for your pet we will provide a blanket.

Treats are welcome.

All personal items remain in your pet’s kennel except, of course if they need to be laundered. Tried and true toys and treats are much more appropriate than introducing your dog to new items while boarding.

What if my dog requires medication?

Happy Dog will gladly administer your dogs medications with no additional charge. Please make sure you bring enough medications for your dogs entire stay.

What if my dog runs out of his medications or food?

If your dog runs out of food or medication, Happy Dog staff will see that it is replenished. There will be a $15.00 fee along with the cost of the food or medications added to your boarding bill.

What if my dog gets sick?

Happy Dog will make every attempt to reach your veterinarian for treatment of your dog. However, if your veterinarian is unavailable, we will contact a veterinarian of our choice for the treatment of your dog.

How will my dog be introduced to other dogs?

Happy Dog takes into account each dogs own personality. Shy and timid dogs are introduced slowly starting in a non-group area paralleling a main play area, allowing your pet to adjust to the range of activity. As your dog begins making friends through the fence, they will be introduced to your dog one at a time. As each dog is an individual time for this process varies.

Dogs showing high interest in playing with others from the start may skip the above step.

What if my dog doesn't get along with other dogs?

Happy Dog has a limited number of non-group areas where your dog can spend time outside without having to interact with other dogs.

Can my friend come and visit my dog?

Yes, your friend can come and visit your pet. However Happy Dog believes that this is often confusing and possibly stressful for your dog. Happy Dog does not allow your dog to leave our premises (for walks or trips to the beach) due to health and safety concerns.

Are reservations required for Day Care or Boarding?

Day Care is provided on a drop in basis (no reservation required) once the initial paper work is completed and vaccinations verified. Reservations are highly recommended for boarding. Making reservations as early as possible will help insure a kennel for your dog.

Do you accept Credit cards?

Yes, Happy Dog accepts Visa and MasterCard only.

Do I need to pay in advance?

In most cases no. Payment, is however due upon pick-up of your dog. If you have someone else picking up your dog, payment arrangements need to be made in advance.  If your dog is boarding for 4 weeks or longer, 50% of payment is due in advance.

Can I arrange to pick up my dog after hours?

Happy Dog does not allow pick up after 6:00 pm weekdays or 4:00 pm. on weekends or holidays. Although the staff is still of the premises cleaning, once the dogs have been bedded down for the night, it is unfair to disturb them all for the sake of one. Once disturbed, some dogs find it difficult to settle back in.

What if I forget to pick up my dog from Day Care?

If you forget to pick up your dog from day care Happy Dog will feed your dog Canidae and bed your dog down for the night as a boarder. Every effort will be made to contact you to inform you what has been done.
